A Breakdown of Intelligent VW Safety Features That Have Your Back During Dicey Conditions
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, 24 percent of weather-related vehicle crashes occur during winter weather, such as snow, slush, or ice. Per their statistics, this results in more than 116,000 people being injured in winter-related incidents with an additional 1,300 more resulting in fatalities.
Winter weather is not to be taken lightly, especially for drivers out on the road here in the Kansas City area. Longtime residents know that Midwestern winters can be extremely intense, resulting in unsafe road conditions, power outages, and several car crashes along 435 and I-35.
The dangers of winter weather are definitely scary, but we plan on delivering more than a cautionary tale. We’re here to offer solutions on how you can safely navigate winter weather here in Lee’s Summit, and how a Volkswagen electric vehicle can help you do it. Here are our top six tips for driving your Volkswagen ID.4 – our award-winning all-electric SUV.
#1 – Switch Over to Snow/Winter Tires
The same way you wouldn’t wear football cleats on the basketball court, you don’t want to drive in a snowstorm on summer tires. Winter tires are specially designed to provide grip on surfaces that are covered in snow and ice. They also use a different type of rubber that holds up better under the duress of cold conditions.
#2 – Allow for Plenty of Time to Thaw Out
One of the huge challenges when driving in winter weather is the lack of visibility. Sleet and snow make it especially difficult for drivers to see the cars around them, which can be a huge liability if one of them suddenly decides to stop or maneuver into your lane.
Do yourself a favor and allow for your windshield and windows to completely thaw out before hitting the road. The goal is that you want to give yourself as much visibility as humanly possible. New electric cars from Volkswagen come with a remote start feature that allows you to start your car from the comfort of your own home.
#3 – Switch Your Electric Vehicle Over to Snow Mode
One of the big advantages of electric vehicles from VW is that they feature snow mode, which is something that VW engineers designed so that drivers can easily tackle winter weather. While engaged in snow mode, your VW will signal the transmission to upshift earlier in the power cycle.
This gives your Volkswagen vehicle much better traction in winter conditions like snow, slush, and ice. In the event that any slippage is detected, your Traction Control System (TCS) will kick in and reduce power to the affected tire and redistribute it to the other tires so that you can retain traction. TCS comes in handy during tricky curves and on inclines.
#4 – IQ.DRIVE Comes Standard on All Volkswagen Electric Vehicles
Even the best of drivers need all the help they can get during extreme winter weather, which is exactly where IQ.DRIVE comes into play. This is a suite of driver assistance features made to help drivers navigate dicey conditions. It includes:
- Travel Assist
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Active Blind Spot Monitor
- Rear Traffic Alert
- Front Assist
- Emergency Assist
- Lane Assist
#5 – 4Motion All-Wheel Drive is Included in the New VW Electric Car for Sale
Having four-wheel drive is nice, but it doesn’t hold a candle to 4Motion with Active Control all-wheel drive, which is featured on any VW ID.4 electric vehicle at your local Volkswagen dealer. This advanced feature measures the speed of each individual wheel multiple times per second. If a sensor anticipates slippage or loss of traction, the system will engage and send up to 50 percent of the engine’s power to the electric vehicle’s rear axle, which allows the vehicle to instantly regain traction.
#6 – Use Best Practices for Winter Driving
There are a lot of winter weather driving best practices you can employ, but about 90% of it is just going slower. Drive slower. Turn slower. Merge slower. Brake sooner and more deliberately. Take however you would normally drive and dial it back some. Even with brand new winter tires and all the bells and whistles a Volkswagen vehicle provides for winter driving, you still need to employ a cautionary driving style to avoid a cold weather calamity.

A Deep Dive into One of the World’s Most Beloved Brands
Sometimes a car brand is more than just a car brand. It’s a culture.
It’s the star of your favorite Disney movie or the car you look back fondly on when you remember family road trips in your parent’s VW Microbus. It’s the car that made the letters “GTI” a promise of speed and thrills. It’s a Volkswagen, but VW owners know it’s so much more than that.
VW is one of the rare brands that generations of drivers grew up with. In fact, many people shopping for new cars for sale in Kansas City naturally gravitate to VW because it was their family car growing up. Volkswagen is nostalgic, but it’s also future-forward. Their timelessness is just one of the many reasons that people absolutely love their VW vehicles.
Here are seven other reasons why VW owners are obsessed with their cars:
#1 – They Drive Some of the Best Cars in the World
No, seriously. We’re not just throwing out hyperbole here. VW actually makes the best vehicles in the world. If you haven’t already heard, the all-electric VW ID.4 won the 2021 World Car of the Year Award and was also named as one of Wards 10 Best User Experiences, certifying it as king in the EV space.
#2 – Some of the Most Fuel-Efficient Cars, Too
Gas prices have everybody in a rut. Fortunately, VW makes some of the most fuel-efficient cars on the market. Case in point: the 2022 VW Jetta, which provides drivers with 29 miles per gallon in the city and up to 42 miles per gallon on the highway. When a vehicle can stretch a dollar as far as a VW sedan, it’s bound to endear itself to drivers.
#3 – They Are Perfect Tailgating and Travel Companions
Whether you’re hitting up Arrowhead stadium for some tailgating or taking a family vacation to the Ozarks, you need an SUV that can fit your crew and your cargo. Fortunately, VW makes some of the most reliable and spacious SUVs in the automobile world. In addition to being packed with infotainment features the entire family can enjoy, the VW Atlas will provide you with up to 96.8 cubic feet of cargo room. That’s more than enough to fit in all your game day gear with room to spare.
#4 – They OwnSome of the Most Reliable Cars Out of Any Brand
The great thing about owning a VW is that you shouldn’t have to visit the Volkswagen service center very often. That’s because Volkswagen makes some of the most reliable vehicles in the world, and the studies prove it. According to a list provided by Savvy that ranked the most expensive car brands to maintain, brands like Mercedes and Cadillac ranked at the top while VW was all the way down the list at the #22 spot. As long as you take care of your VW, your VW will take care of you.
#5 – New Cars for Sale at VW Come with an Amazing Warranty
Speaking of taking care of your VW…nothing quite says safety and security like an industry leading warranty. For those shopping for new cars for sale in Kansas City, every late model Volkswagen vehicle comes with Carefree Coverage. It breaks down as follows:
- 2 yrs. Service – Scheduled Carefree Maintenance (2 years or 20,000 miles)
- 3 yrs. Help – Roadside Assistance (3 years or 36,000 miles)
- 4 yrs. Coverage – New Vehicle Limited Warranty (4 years or 50,000 miles)
- 5 yrs. Access – myVW Remote Access
When you visit the VW service center for maintenance or repairs, Carefree Coverage will appear in your records, making the process simple and easy.
#6 – They Enjoy Low Price Tags
VW is an industry leader in selling cars and SUVs that have a luxurious feel without that luxury price tag. For instance, the fuel efficient and elegant VW Jetta has a starting MSRP of just $20,415, easily making it one of the most competitively priced vehicles in its class.
#7 – Even Celebrities Love VW
Chris Pratt, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence…what do they all have in common? (besides all playing Marvel characters) If you said, “They’re all VW drivers,” you’d be correct. These stars know which iconic vehicle brand delivers the red-carpet treatment.

A Guide to Maximizing Your New Volkswagen Test Drive
Winter is on the way, which means many drivers in the Lee’s Summit area are considering a new vehicle to tackle the upcoming Midwestern weather. Maybe you’re thinking about upgrading to a new Volkswagen SUV so that you can elevate your tailgating game at Arrowhead. Or maybe you want to ride in something more winter capable.
Whatever the case may be, the professionals at VW Lee’s Summit can help you find a new Volkswagen that will have you riding into winter in style. We have the award-winning, all-electric VW ID.4 for those looking to finally end their strenuous relationship with gas pumps. We also have the supersized VW Atlas that comfortably sits up to seven people and offers up to 96.8 cubic ft. of cargo space.
Of course, your new Volkswagen doesn’t have to be an SUV. We also have plenty of sedans and compacts on our lot ready to test drive. That brings us to our next main question that most customers have: “How do you get the most out of a test drive?”
We totally get it. Getting to know a vehicle in such a short amount of time is a big task. Fortunately, we have a tried-and-true two-part checklist for you to follow. Let’s break this down.
#1 – Do a Little Homework on Your New Volkswagen
Car shopping isn’t like it was 20 years ago. You now have all manner of reviews, specifications, high-res images, and a complete dossier of information at your fingertips. The Internet allows you to get familiar with the car before you even set foot in it, which will help later on when you visit a new car dealership near you.
Rather than the sales associate trying to figure out what you want, they’ll be able to steer you in the direction of the car that meets your needs. The best way to study up is by visiting the new vehicles section of our website. In addition to listing out all the highlights and specs of each vehicle, we also provide a payment calculator to estimate your payments. This helps keep customers on their predetermined budget.
Once you’ve got the one or two cars that look like a winner, contact VW Lee’s Summit to arrange your test drive. We’ll make sure we set aside the new Volkswagen vehicles you have your eye on.
#2 – The Best Practices of Test Driving a New Volkswagen
Here’s our goal with test driving: we want you to get so familiar with the vehicle that you are able to make an informed decision about buying it. This means getting you up to speed on how the car performs, its features, and its overall feel. Sometimes you step into a vehicle and it feels “not you.” Other times you step into a vehicle and it fits like a glove. We’re interested in helping you find the latter.
To help you on your quest, here are a few of the best practices for test driving:
Drive it like you own it. No need to dial back your natural driving style on our account. We want you to test out the vehicle in the exact way that you would normally drive it. Feel free to put the pedal to the metal on a few highway merges. Put the vehicle’s suspension end maneuverability to the test. Try out a few hard stops to ensure the brakes are up to your specifications (but do it safely, of course). When you’re done with your test drive, there shouldn’t be a doubt in your mind that this vehicle can keep up with your driving style.
Get to know all the features. Try not to get so caught up in driving the vehicle that you forget about one of the most important aspects – the features. You’ll be hard pressed to find new cars for sale in Kansas City that have superior feature packages to a new Volkswagen. Some of the top ones include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Adaptive Cruise Control, keyless entry, and heated seats and steering wheel, just to name a few.
Don’t forget to discuss your warranty. Buying a new Volkswagen is a big deal; you’ll want to make sure that your purchase is protected. Fortunately, all new Volkswagen vehicles come with Carefree Coverage as a standard. this suite of protections includes:
When you visit the Volkswagen service center for maintenance or repairs, Carefree Coverage will appear in your records, making the process simple and easy.

And How to Select the Best Volkswagen Car for Tackling Snow and Ice
Winter weather driving in Missouri is no joke. We get all manner of snow, ice, and sleet along with sub-zero temperatures. It’s also worth mentioning that, statistically-speaking, winter is the season in which car accidents are most likely to occur. Some of that is due to drivers who are not accustomed to winter weather driving. Some of it can be blamed on the cars themselves.
For instance, a rear-wheel drive hatchback outfitted with summer tires is likely not going to perform very well in four inches of snow. Chances are, a car like that will become immobilized due to lack of grip and weight. Even with the right car, such as a VW Atlas Cross Sport or Tiguan, you still need to exercise best winter driving practices to ensure you won’t become a liability out on the road.
To give you a refresher, we’ll cover some of our top driving tips along with which Volkswagen cars are our best for traversing a Missouri winter.
#1 – Always Make Time to Thaw Out
When winter driving, you want your vehicle to be in the best condition possible. This means entering the fold with a warm engine and your windows as clear as possible. A great number of car accidents happen due to lack of visibility, so make sure you set the defrost to full blast and scrape the ice off those windows. Don’t forget to heat up your steering wheel and your seats for additional comfort.
Allow your vehicle to warm up for at least 10 to 15 minutes before exiting your driveway. If you get a new VW for sale, it should come with remote start so that you can remain comfortable within your home until it’s time to drive.
#2 – Make Sure You Have the Right Tires
If this is your first snow rodeo, make sure that you switch from your summer/all season tires over to winter tires before the first snowfall. Winter tires are specially designed to provide traction and grip on surfaces that are covered in snow and/or ice. This is especially important when taking on curves, turns, and while applying the brakes. Winter tires also use a different type of rubber that is more resilient to subzero temperatures.
Own a VW and need to upgrade to winter tires? Set up an appointment with the VW service center today to get that process started.
#3 – Don’t Forget to Switch Over to Snow Mode
If you bought a new VW for sale – specifically, an SUV – it comes with a handy feature known as Snow Mode. While your Volkswagen is engaged in Snow Mode, your vehicle will signal the transmission to upshift earlier in its power cycle. This means that your VW SUV will get better traction and grip in traditional winter conditions.
Should you hit a particularly tricky section of snow or ice, your Traction Control System (TCS) will kick in to reduce the power to the affected tires and redistribute it so you regain traction. TCS is great for sections of road covered in black ice or other slippery hazards.
#4 – A New VW for Sale Comes with 4Motion AWD and IQ.DRIVE
Further upping the ante, a new VW for sale comes with 4Motion with Active Control all-wheel drive as well as IQ.DRIVE. 4Motion Control AWD measures the speed of each individual wheel multiple times per second. In the event a sensor predicts slippage or loss of traction, 4Motion Control AWD will engage and send up to 50% of the engine’s power to your rear axle. This allows you to instantaneously regain traction. In fact, most drivers don’t even notice the system kicking in.
IQ.DRIVE is a full suite of driver assistance features that are made to make winter driving safer. It includes:
- Travel Assist
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Active Blind Spot Monitor
- Rear Traffic Alert
- Front Assist
- Emergency Assist
- Lane Assist
#5 – Remember to Dial Things Back
Having the right tires and all these safety features doesn’t mean much unless you practice good winter driving habits. What do we mean? Driving slower. Turning and merging slower. And braking much sooner than you normally would. Treat the entire driving process with kid gloves. Most winter driving accidents happen when someone thinks they can still go full speed on the interstate and suddenly need to stop.

It’s also going to be another great season of tailgating. And for those who have never tailgated at Arrowhead before, we really know how to do things right here in Kansas City. We’re talking yard games, huge barbecue pits, great music, and every sort of adult beverage you can imagine.
So, for those of you who are in your rookie season of tailgating at Arrowhead, here is your 2022 list of tailgating essentials that will fit into your VW SUV. To find a Volkswagen near you, visit the pros at VW Lee’s Summit.
#1 – Coleman RoadTrip 285 Portable Grill
When you’re tailgating using an SUV, every little square inch of cargo space matters. That’s why we love the Coleman RoadTrip 285 portable stand-up propane grill. It folds up nice and compact, meaning it takes up very little space when you load it up into the back of your VW SUV. It also does one heck of a job cooking burgers, dogs, and your other favorite meats and veggies. This grill has over 92% four-star reviews and above on Amazon, not to mention it’s a certified top pick by the Food Network and Bob Villa.
#2 – Soundboks 2 Wireless Speaker
As everyone in Kansas City already knows, Arrowhead Stadium is the loudest stadium in the entire NFL. Clocking in at 142.2 decibels, Chiefs Kingdom knows how to bring the noise. So, when it comes to portable speakers, you have to go with the biggest and loudest in the game – the Soundboks 2.
This portable speaker seamlessly pairs via Bluetooth to your smartphone and delivers 122 decibels of volume, making it one of the loudest Bluetooth speakers a tailgating fan can get their hands on. It’s also made to hold up well into overtime with a battery pack that lasts for over 40 hours. Additionally, it’s water-resistant and splashproof, meaning it can handle the rigors of high-intensity tailgating.
#3 – Igloo Trailmate Journey 70-Quart Cooler
Although you can get by with that disposable Styrofoam cooler, why not invest in something that will last a lifetime? We’re referring, of course, to the Igloo Trailmate Journey 70-quart cooler. It’s capable of holding a massive amount of beverages, food, and whatever else you need to keep in ice. The wheels make it easy to roll around through the lot, and it also comes with a wide variety of features such as a bottle opener, areas for storage, and much more.
#4 – ABCCanopy Pop-Up Canopy Tent
Even with the worst of summer over, Kansas City can still surprise you with the random scorcher of a fall day. It can also decide to throw rain, sleet, or snow at your group at a moment’s notice. This is why all experienced tailgaters who frequent Arrowhead Stadium are packing a portable canopy pop-up tent, which allows them to get coverage when they need it most.
ABCCanopy has a high-rated line of pop-up tents that come in a variety of sizes (6.6 x 6.6, 8 x 8, 10 x 10). These tents are water-resistant and SPF 50+. Make sure to review the cargo storage dimensions of your VW SUV before committing to one. Large SUVs like the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport should have no issues. Sub-compact SUVs like the VW Taos might not have enough room for large tents, but it will have superior gas mileage for commuting between home and Arrowhead.

Reviewing the History of the Volkswagen Golf GTI

And Where to Find New Cars for Sale in Kansas City
Legends aren’t often created overnight. They are the result of tireless effort, years of hard work, and tons of ingenuity and creative thinking.
It’s crazy to think that we are on the eighth iteration of the VW Golf GTI. It’s one of the fastest, zippiest hatchbacks the VW brand has ever released – a true breakthrough in both engineering and design. However, it’s important to note that this particular vehicle didn’t come right out of the gate as the best. It took a lot of hard work to get to certified “whip” status.
To give old and new VW fans alike a little history lesson, here is a breakdown of the Volkswagen Golf GTI through the ages, starting with its initial release in the 1970s.
1976 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 1)
The history of the Volkswagen Golf GTI kicks off all the way back in the mid-1970s. VW wanted to release a vehicle that could compete with other speedy compacts on the market. The engineers at VW dropped in a 1.6L inline-four engine that yielded 110 horsepower with a top speed of up to 110 mph. Finally, VW had rolled out a vehicle that could keep up with an entry level Porsche. Not bad at all for a first effort.
1985 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 2)
Although it took nearly a decade for the sequel to the VW Golf GTI to be released to the public, drivers and reviewers felt it was well worth the wait. The Mk2 was given a nice little boost in performance, improving upon both the horsepower and the engine. The 16-valve version provided drivers with 137 HP.
1991 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 3)
A new decade meant a new VW Golf GTI. This time the designers and engineers over at VW gave the vehicle a sleeker, more modern feel. Additionally, the engine got a much-needed upgrade. This version of the GTI had a 2.0L inline-four engine that provided drivers with 115 hp.
1997 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 4)
The Mk4 of the VW Golf GTI line-up was one of the biggest hits so far, especially in Europe. It went on to become the best-selling vehicle of 2001 overseas. In the design department, the length of the car and the wheelbase got a slight expansion. Also, the overall curb weight was upped by approximately 200 pounds from the last iteration. The Mk4 was initially offered with two engine options: a 2.0L 4-cylinder and a 2.8L narrow-angle VR6 that yielded up to 174 horsepower. Many drivers and reviewers compared this version of the VW Golf GTI to the BMWs of that time period.
2004 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 5)
Now officially in the new millennium, Volkswagen decided to release yet another iteration of the VW Golf GTI. It had been a long time since the Mk4 had been released, and so engineers and designers did an amazing job of making this the Golf GTI to represent the new generation of drivers. This iteration used a 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), which thoroughly elevated its performance from the last model of the GTI. Both drivers and reviewers loved the zippiness (146 mph top speed) along with the precision handling.
2009 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 6)
Thankfully, fans of the VW Golf GTI didn’t have to wait nearly as long for the next iteration to be released. What made the Mk6 distinct is that it had some professional oversight on the chassis development from German racing legend, Hans-Joachim Stuck. VW was adamant about making the Mk6 one of the speediest vehicles on the road. Rising to the occasion, engineers dropped in a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine that yielded 210 horsepower in international markets (200 hp in the U.S.).
As if the performance upgrade weren’t enough, designers also made some considerable design upgrades that would carry through to subsequent generations of Golf GTI. Two of the main ones were the dual exhausts at the corners of the rear bumper along with the new honeycomb grill.
2013 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 7)
The seventh iteration of the VW Golf GTI was distinct because it was the first time that it was ever scaled down in size and curb weight. Its predecessors had always gone bigger and heavier. However, this didn’t mean that it was scaling down in performance. Far from it.
In addition to strengthening its build to enhance its performance and handling, VW engineers also made a variety of structural improvements. The VW Golf GTI Mk7 was a certified speed demon that could hit 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds. It also packed quite a bit of horsepower at 230 HP.
Drivers and reviewers alike loved the Mk7. In fact, it would go on to have several different variants released throughout different parts of the world.
2021 – VW Golf GTI (Mark 8)
The eighth (and current) iteration of the VW Golf GTI was originally released in 2021 and has since gone on to be one of the most well received compact vehicles Volkswagen has ever released. In another first for the VW Golf GTI lineup, the Mk8 was released in a four-door as opposed to the traditional two-door.
The Mk8 also got a complete facelift in the interior and exterior. Designers gave it a speedier, more aggressive look while the interior was given various design accents and flourishes to elevate its overall appearance. The Mk8 even includes a mood lighting feature.
Of course, no VW Golf GTI would be complete without a considerable performance upgrade, and VW engineers did this one justice by giving it 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft. of torque, making the Mk8 one of the highest performing vehicles of the year.

What We Know So Far About This Vehicle and Where to Find New Cars for Sale in Kansas City
It’s safe to say that by now you’ve at least heard the name Volkswagen ID.4. To give you a quick refresher, this is our game-changing all-electric SUV that was named the World Car of the Year in 2021. It was also recently awarded one of Wards Best User Experiences.
Yielding up to 275 miles on a single charge (Pro model), the Volkswagen ID.4 has convinced many longtime holdouts to finally consider switching over to an electric vehicle. The VW ID.4 also provides drivers with up to 295 horsepower and up to 339 lb-ft. of torque, disproving the rumor that electric vehicles lack performance.
Considering those factors and how the VW ID.4 delivers future-forward design, an amazing suite of features, and a fun and nimble driving style, there’s never been a better time to make the switch over to electric.
We also can’t forget to mention that this is one of the most affordable new cars for sale in Kansas City, especially in the EV category. With a starting MSRP of $41,230 (as low as $33,730 after potential federal tax credit), there is finally an affordable way to graduate to an electric vehicle.
With the Volkswagen ID.4 being such a big hit, it has many drivers and reviewers wanting to know what’s next for the VW name in terms of electric vehicles. Well, it might actually be a vehicle you’re already familiar with – the VW Tiguan.
Is the VW Tiguan REALLY Going Electric? Or is That Just a Rumor?
Reporting on rumored vehicles is interesting business because you never really know for sure if the vehicle will go into production. Throughout its history, VW has had several vehicles that made it to the concept phase only to be canceled later. That’s just part of the business. Some cars make it. Some don’t.
Keeping that in mind, we are hearing news and seeing photographic proof regarding an electric version of the VW Tiguan that leads us to believe this vehicle may go into production. Spy photographers have captured images of a VW Tiguan with no tailpipes and a closed-off front grill that is being tested in multiple parts of the world. At the very least, this VW Tiguan may potentially be a hybrid, but is very likely a full-fledged electric.
It’s also worth noting that conceptualizing, designing, and engineering a brand-new all-electric vehicle is a much more expensive endeavor compared to taking a current vehicle from gas-powered to electric. Putting an all-electric version of the Tiguan into production would be smart from a cost perspective.
So, could the VW Tiguan be one of the new cars for sale in Kansas City within the next few years? Considering the success of the last Volkswagen electric car for sale, it certainly seems like it.
Upcoming EV concepts such as the VW ID. Buzz, the VW ID. AERO, and the VW ID. LIFE appear to be on their way to a rollout, but we won’t know for sure until they are officially slated with a release day by the higher-ups over at the Volkswagen Group. The same can be said for the VW Tiguan concept we’ve been seeing around.

And Where to Find Great Deals on New Cars for Sale in Kansas City
Most new car buyers have a few key items that they keep top of mind when they’re shopping for cars. For some, the name of the game is storage capacity, which puts them squarely in SUV territory. They won’t even look at a sedan, so we show them vehicles like the VW Atlas and the VW Atlas Cross Sport. For others, it’s all about fuel economy, agility, and speed. In that case, we would probably recommend the VW Jetta or VW Golf GTI.
Of course, when searching for a Volkswagen near you, it can be easy to forget about the variety of little perks that come with them – the feature package. It’s the features that make a car enjoyable to drive, not to mention more convenient and safer for you and your passengers.
To highlight some of our more impressive features, we’re going to break down the top three to look for the next time that you’re shopping for new cars.
#1 – Adaptive Cruise Control
Cruise control is a great little feature that rolled out some time ago, and that allowed drivers a more relaxed experience behind the wheel when cruising along the highway. You should know how it works by now: you get up to the speed you want, activate cruise control, and then sit back and steer the vehicle. It’s great for drivers and even better for fuel economy.
However, it wasn’t until recently that cruise control got a major bump in its functionality. We’re referring to, of course, adaptive cruise control. It’s the same concept as regular cruise control with one distinct difference: if the car in front of you slows down, your cruise control will adapt to match its speed.
This saves drivers the hassle of having to hit the brake and then readjust their cruise control once the vehicle in front of them starts clocking a steady speed again. It comes standard on all late model VW vehicles.
#2 – VW Voice Recognition
You got to love voice recognition applications such as Siri and Alexa from Amazon. They make life infinitely easier, especially if you have your hands full and need a quick response on something. These voice assistants have changed the way that we ask for the weather or check our daily calendar.
So, it’s about time that we took this feature and adapted it for automobiles, which is exactly what VW has done with their voice recognition software. It’s a natural move when you think about it. Here at VW, the goal is to make driving as safe as humanly possible.
The VW Voice Assistant allows for drivers to initiate phone calls, ask for directions, change the radio station, and adjust the temperature in the cabin – all completely hands-free. This feature is available on select VW vehicle models.
#3 – Forward Collision Warning/Avoidance
Nothing is more important to the driving experience than safety. This is why VW engineers work tirelessly to invent safety features that keep drivers protected behind the wheel. One of their most recent breakthroughs is forward collision warning/avoidance.
It works like this: if you happen to be at risk of hitting the person in front of you, the feature activates and will emit sound, flash lights, and potentially modify the tactile feel of your steering wheel or brake pedal. This is known as forward collision warning. In the event that collision is imminent, the emergency brake will be automatically applied without the need for human intervention.
For those instances where split-second decision-making is crucial, VW is there to assist drivers who aren’t quick enough at hitting the brake pedal. It will save countless lives and prevent tons of vehicle damage.

Can the ID. Buzz Be Used for Van Life?

One of the Best New Cars for Sale in Kansas City
Are you a modern nomad? Is your dream to hop from town-to-town partaking in adventures on the road as you travel the interstate to parts unknown?
We’ve all had that wild aspiration to seek out the best food, drink, and sights that booming cities and tiny hamlets have to offer. If this sounds like you, then maybe you’re familiar with the term van life.
Think of it like RV life, only scaled down in size. It’s when you live in a modified van that is outfitted with basic amenities that are needed for driving, sleeping, and living in a vehicle. The most advanced versions of this idea include a bed, sink, toilet, and stovetop for cooking meals. Although this may sound impossible, we can assure you this is definitely a thing people are doing.
Although it is a bit of an adjustment for anyone unfamiliar with extended travel, van life is a culture that calls out to those looking for the ultimate road trip adventure.
Naturally, this begs the question: “Can the upcoming VW ID. Buzz be used for van life?”
What We Know About the VW ID. Buzz – The First All-Electric Van from Volkswagen
The VW ID. Buzz is both an homage to the past and a commitment to the future in terms of sustainability and offering vehicles that are carbon neutral. For those that have been keeping an eye on VW and its vehicles for a while, the ID. Buzz is reminiscent of the Type 2 Microbus from the 1970s, but with an ultra-modern spin on it.
The VW ID. Buzz will be the first all-electric van that goes into mass production from Volkswagen. Although it has been previewed at multiple car shows and by trusted automobile bloggers, not much about the VW ID. Buzz is permanently set in stone. Much of what we know is based upon speculation and through glimpses of what we’ve seen in previews.
According to the information that we have right now, what we can say for sure is that the VW ID. Buzz will provide drivers with 260 miles of range on a single charge. However, that is subject to change, especially if VW decides to go with a dual battery model. That would significantly improve the driving range, making it an ideal fit for van life.
A couple other things that we know is that it will be a net-zero carbon vehicle, and it will provide plenty of room within the interior for passengers, cargo, and upgrades intended for van life. The trunk area of the VW ID. Buzz is huge. Those who are wanting to outfit it with a sink or other modern conveniences should have more than enough space to do that. It’s really a matter of how much a person is willing to invest in modifying their van.
One quick tip that we’ll offer about van modifications: don’t do anything you can’t easily undo. When it comes time to sell your van, it might be difficult to find a buyer who wants those types of “van life” modifications. Making modifications also might affect your Carefree Coverage warranty, so make sure you’re mindful of that.
