VW SUV Models That Fall Foliage Fans Love

Black SUV driving fast through empty street

With its beautiful parks, tree-lined streets, and vibrant neighborhoods, Kansas City is the perfect spot to witness fall foliage at its best. Reds, oranges, and yellows blaze brightly from the many oaks and maples that populate the city. So, what’s the best way to enjoy all this fiery eye candy warming the horizon?

If you want a true front row seat to enjoy KC’s fall foliage display, you can’t go wrong with a new Volkswagen SUV. The elevated ride height, ultra-spacious cabin, and superior ride quality of the new VW SUV models make them perfect for fall cruising and sightseeing. Check out the following five spots in the KC area for amazing fall foliage.

#1 – Loose Park and the Country Club Plaza

Heading north from the intersection of 55th and Wornall Road, the fall colors of Loose Park are as picturesque as it gets. The 75-acre park hosts numerous amenities, water features, and walking trails that offer spectacular autumn views.

Continue driving north in your new Volkswagen SUV until you hit the Country Club Plaza. The Spanish-style architecture and pops of bright color lining the streets elevate the historic shopping district to new heights. If you happen to be a Volkswagen ID.4 owner, there are plenty of public charging stations nearby. Enjoy a fall stroll and some seasonally inspired treats while your battery recharges.

#2 – The Nelson-Atkins Museum

The supersized shuttlecocks adorning the main lawn of the Nelson-Atkins are an iconic symbol of the KC arts scene. During the fall, splashes of red and orange add a pleasant trim of color to the perimeter. Do yourself a favor and take a look around on foot. The Nelson-Atkins features several walking paths and outdoor art installations the entire family will enjoy.

#3 – National WWI Museum and Memorial

If you’re anywhere near the Crown Center area, it’s impossible to miss the Liberty Memorial Tower piercing the skyline. The National WWI Museum is the second-oldest public museum that’s dedicated to the preservation of objects from the war.

Outside the museum is arguably one of the iconic views of Kansas City. Take your new Volkswagen SUV around the Liberty Memorial Mall loop for some unforgettable fall foliage and picture-perfect cityscapes.

#4 – City Market

Located north of downtown Kansas City, the City Market is a nice reprieve from the bustling city. The farmer’s market, local restaurants and shops, and historic design elements give this area a small-town feel. Add in some breathtaking fall foliage, and the City Market turns into a perfect place for low-speed cruising or an afternoon walk.

#5 – Berkley Riverfront

Head due north from the City Market and you’ll find the Berkley Riverfront area off the bank of the Missouri River. The Berkley Riverfront features winding roadways that showcase the area’s new development, the Heart of America Bridge, and some amazing fall foliage. Park your new Volkswagen SUV and enjoy one of the area’s massive walking paths. They’re wide enough to accommodate cyclists, pets, and strollers.

VW SUV Models to Consider this Fall

Nothing complements a fall tour of Kansas City quite like a Volkswagen, which is probably why so many families gravitate toward them. The all-season performance, low cost of ownership, and advanced technology of the 2023 VW SUV models make them perfect for Midwestern driving.

The 2023 Taos is a new Volkswagen SUV, representing the lone subcompact option. People who want nimble handling and low cost of ownership love the Taos. The2023 VW Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are also available. The standard Atlas is the resident hulk, capable of seating up to seven people. The Cross Sport is a smaller, sportier offshoot of the Atlas that can tackle the trickiest of terrain.

In the mid-size category, the 2023 Tiguan continues to build on its reputation of being one of the most reliable and versatile SUVs in its class. Families who want the classic SUV look with some modern flourishes will feel right at home in the Tiguan.

The final new Volkswagen SUV for sale is the all-electric VW ID.4. Pro model drivers will get an estimated 275 miles on a single charge. Another big perk is that owners get three years of unlimited 30-minute DC Fast Charging sessions at Electrify America stations.

How the Volkswagen Group Makes EVs More Accessible to Drivers

A paradigm shift is occurring in the automotive industry, and Volkswagen is one of the major players in the fold. Although the era of electric vehicles began some time ago, VW is intent on proving that they are not an absentee at the EV party, but rather, fashionably late.

In 2020, Volkswagen released their very first electric vehicle in the U.S. – the VW ID.4. The Volkswagen electric SUV won the 2021 World Car of the Year Award and was recognized as one of Ward’s 10 Best User Experiences. Further, the ID.4 appeared on several editor’s choice lists in the SUV and electric vehicle categories.

Naturally, VW has big plans to build upon the success of their freshman effort. A Volkswagen electric car and microbus are due out within the next two years. Additionally, the German automaker has made several moves as an organization to promote the expansion of electric vehicles and build out the charging network for consumers.

The VW Commitment to Sustainable Driving

Volkswagen has made a pledge to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, which aligns with the goals of the Paris Agreement. To achieve this, VW is investing heavily in their lineup of Volkswagen electric cars and SUVs. By committing to a future of electric mobility, the German automaker is leading the way towards a sustainable and electrified future.

Volkswagen Electric Cars and SUVs – Shaping the Electric Revolution

At the forefront of Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup is the ID. family of VW vehicles. Using an innovative Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, each member of the ID. lineup features a future-forward design, advanced technology, and an impressive single-charge max driving range.

The ID.7 – the first Volkswagen electric car – will likely go on sale sometime in 2024, according to Car and Driver. Currently, it is estimated the ID.7 will have a max single charge driving range of 435 miles. Also joining the ID. family is the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz, which is a futuristic take on the old VW Microbus design from the 1960s. Projected to deliver up to 260 miles on a single charge, the Buzz is firmly poised to make a huge splash in the electric van segment.

Of course, drivers can still count on the VW ID.4 to build upon its winning legacy. The 2023 iteration of this Volkswagen electric SUV recently hit the market. Pro models of the ID.4 deliver up to 275 miles on a single charge and are packed with the most technology and advanced features ever installed in a VW. Considering the variety and performance specs of these electric vehicles, the future looks quite bright for the ID. lineup.

Expanding the Charging Infrastructure to Meet Consumer Demand

To support the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, a robust and accessible charging infrastructure is crucial. Electrify America – Volkswagen’s subsidiary – is spearheading the ambitious task of building a comprehensive charging network across the United States.

According to TechCrunch, VW is committed to invest more than $2 billion in Electrify America over the next three years. Currently, there are more than 130,000 public charging stations across the U.S. The primary goal for VW is to deploy thousands more, making electric vehicle charging convenient and hassle-free for customers.

Collaboration is crucial to achieving a seamless charging experience for electric vehicle owners. To this end, Volkswagen has engaged in partnerships with other industry leaders and charging networks that will provide consistent access to charging stations. Ideally, having a large and reliable charging network will alleviate the “range anxiety” that some drivers have about electric vehicles.

By combining an advanced offering of Volkswagen electric cars, SUVs, and vans with an expanded charging network, the VW group is on track to address the major pain point that consumers have about EVs. It’s also worth noting that the 2023 VW ID.4 comes with three free years of unlimited 30-minute DC fast charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations.

Where to Learn More About Eco-Friendly Volkswagen Electric Cars and SUVs

Drivers who are interested in knowing more about what Volkswagen has in store for their electric vehicles and plans for improving sustainability should check out how they will produce vehicles using recycled materials.

Additionally, drivers can check out the entire ID. lineup on the Volkswagen website. It’s a fantastic resource for learning about all the advantages of going electric and how electric vehicles and charging works.

The myVW App Is About to Get a Welcome Addition in the Technology Department

As experienced smartphone users know, the App Store is what provides access to a world of applications, including weather, streaming services, gaming, and much more. With the rollout of App-Connect – more commonly known as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto – it finally affords users the ability to integrate their smartphones with their vehicles.

Owners of late model cars and SUVs can access their favorite third-party apps using Apple CarPlay/Android Auto; however, the technology is by no means perfect. First, select third-party apps are not accessible through the App-Connect software. Additionally, some apps have compatibility issues that result in poor display or functionality issues.

Fortunately, Volkswagen is rolling out a solution – the in-car VW App Store, which will be featured on select VW vehicles in the near future. Let’s get to know a little bit more about this upcoming technology upgrade and what drivers can expect. Afterwards, we’ll review the myVW app and its overall role in VW technology.

Elevating from App-Connect to the VW App Store

Every application within the VW App Store will be optimized to run on the touchscreen monitor included with Volkswagen vehicles, which means any compatibility issues users previously experienced will be ironed out.

The other major pain point that the VW App Store addresses is the guessing game users play when adding apps using the App-Connect software. Since all apps will be available via the VW App Store, the manual addition process can officially be retired.

So, what exactly will be included with the VW App Store upon roll-out? CARIAD – the software company overseeing the new app store’s creation – has gone on record stating that the VW App Store will include notable third-party favorites like Spotify, The Weather Channel, Webex, Yelp, and TikTok.

However, it’s important to note that apps like TikTok can only be used for consuming content – not creating it. This ensures drivers exercise safe driving practices when behind the wheel. Creating TikTok videos must be done using the mobile version of the app.

CARIAD also reports that the new app store will be available across all brands included in the Volkswagen Group of vehicles, starting with Audi in July 2023. The app store will eventually expand to Porsche, Bentley, and, of course, Volkswagen. In keeping with the original app store, the VW App Store will include numerous app categories, including:

  • News
  • Gaming
  • Podcasts
  • Music
  • Weather
  • Video conferencing
  • Parking info
  • EV charging station locations

Currently, there has been no formal announcement about the exact Volkswagen models the VW App Store will appear in; however, we can safely estimate that it will be included in the all-electric ID. lineup of VW vehicles. Further, it’s possible that VW will roll out a software upgrade for current vehicles so that they can take advantage of the new technology. It will likely be handled in the same fashion as the VW ID.4’s recent software upgrade.

Getting Reacquainted with the myVW App

Drivers who purchased their VW vehicles within the past two years have probably noticed that VW Car-Net has transitioned to the myVW App. Although the name has changed, the core concept of the app has remained the same – providing a suite of remote and convenience features to VW owners.

The main features of the myVW App include:

  • Last parked location, which is a feature that shows drivers where they last parked on a map.
  • Parkopedia parking assistance®.
  • Remote lock/unlock, start, and cabin climate control.
  • Amazon Alexa sync.
  • Roadside assistance requests.
  • Vehicle service reminders and history.
  • Service appointment scheduling.

Five years of access to the myVW App is included with all late model vehicle purchases as part of the Carefree Coverage warranty.

Sizing Up the Most Popular Volkswagen Models in Kansas City for Young Adults and Teens

Nothing makes a parent anxious quite like the idea of their kid getting behind the wheel. After all, driving is a significant responsibility. One person’s lack of judgment can impact those around them. However, Volkswagen excels at providing parents and teen drivers with confidence and peace of mind. In addition to being loaded with safety features, many VW models have been selected as a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.

Concerned about how your teen driver will handle themselves in heavy traffic situations on the highway?

No worries! The IQ.DRIVE suite of intelligent driver assistance features ensures they remain vigilant to potential hazards. Any attempt to make an unsafe lane change or mistakenly back into oncoming traffic will be met with a series of audio and visual alerts, prompting your teen driver to take corrective action.

What about the cost of ownership? Can the average driver afford a new car these days?

Absolutely! Volkswagen is renowned for delivering quality vehicles that fit tight budgets. In fact, many of the latest VW models are the most competitively priced in their class. Additionally, we have an in-house finance department right here at VW Lee’s Summit that will help you secure reasonable auto loan terms with an affordable payment.

#2 – 2023 VW Taos

Perhaps your young adult driver has storage needs a sedan can’t quite accommodate. In that case, it may be time to step things up to an SUV. We know what you’re thinking: “Aren’t SUVs bad on fuel economy?” Not if Volkswagen has anything to say about it.

The 2023 VW Taos delivers an estimated 28 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. Much of its fuel-efficiency is due to its subcompact frame and ultra-light curb weight. Out of the latest VW models, the Taos stands out because it’s an SUV that handles like a sedan while providing plenty of storage. It’s quick, nimble, and super affordable at a starting MSRP of just $24,155.

vw atlas vs atlas cross sport

How the VW Atlas Cross Sport Compares to Its Upsized Counterpart

Another summer is upon us, and you know what that means – it’s time to travel. Whether you’re planning a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks or a day trip to St. Joe to check out Chiefs training camp, you and your family will be spending more quality time in the car together.

If you’re rolling with a large crew with sizable summer plans, you’ll need ample seating and interior space, enough cargo room for your gear, and plenty of infotainment and comfort features to keep your passengers happy. Family road trips can be rough if you don’t have the right vehicle.

Fortunately, the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas for sale is one of the best options for big families with demanding storage needs. Its slightly smaller counterpart – the VW Atlas Cross Sport – is leaner in build while delivering the same performance metrics as its big brother.

It can be difficult to differentiate between the two at first glance, which is why we’re going to break down how the VW Atlas and VW Atlas Cross Sport are unique. However, before we dive into that, let’s review the attributes they have in common.

Overlapping Stats the VW Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport Share

On paper, the VW Atlas and the VW Atlas Cross Sport are practically twins. Both SUVs can be outfitted with either a four-cylinder 2.0L turbo 8-speed engine with Tiptronic or the same engine with 4MOTION® all-wheel drive. Because they’re outfitted with the same engine, that means both iterations of the VW Atlas deliver 266 lb-ft of torque and 276 horsepower. Further, they both can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Regarding the Volkswagen Atlas’ gas mileage, it probably comes as no surprise those stats are also mirrored. Both VW Atlas models provide an estimated 21 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway, and each SUV has a fuel capacity of 18.6 gallons.

Moving on to features and infotainment, there’s a lot of consistency between the two. Both the VW Atlas and the VW Atlas Cross Sport are offered in five different trim levels; each trim level has its own distinct set of features and aesthetic upgrades. Drivers will notice IQ.DRIVE, touchscreen media display, and VW Digital Cockpit appear throughout the various trim levels. You’ll be hard pressed to find a feature offered by one Atlas that isn’t offered by the other.

Finally, both models of the VW Atlas come with the same new vehicle warranty – Carefree Coverage. It consists of a package of protections and services that helps Atlas owners keep their SUVs in tip-top condition. It also provides limited-time roadside assistance and access to remote features via the myVW app.

How Is the VW Atlas Different from the VW Atlas Cross Sport?

Although the VW Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have a lot in common, there are some key things that set them apart. The most noticeable difference pertains to size and seating. The standard VW Atlas is the larger of the two SUVs and features three rows of seating that can hold up to seven passengers. The VW Atlas Cross Sport is slightly scaled down and sportier looking in terms of design and build. It can accommodate up to five passengers within its roomy cabin featuring two-toned seating.

Different vehicle sizes means different storage capacities between these two SUVs. The standard VW Atlas offers up to 96.8 cubic feet of storage while the VW Atlas Cross Sport offers 77.8 cubic feet. In both models, the rear seats must be folded down for max storage.

Finally, there’s a slight price difference between both Atlas models. The standard Atlas has a starting MSRP of $35,150 while the Atlas Cross Sport clocks in at $34,460. No matter which trim level you’re comparing, the Atlas Cross Sport always has a slightly smaller price tag.

Deciding Which Volkswagen Atlas for Sale Is Right for You

Choosing between the VW Atlas and VW Atlas Cross Sport is far easier to do in person, especially once you’ve had a chance to test drive them. Some drivers find the behind-the-wheel experience is an effective tiebreaker. The best way to take advantage is by stopping by the VW Lee’s Summit dealership. Once you’ve had a chance to experience both varieties of the VW Atlas, you’ll have a much easier time deciding which one is right for you and your family.

stacks of coin to show lower costs

How Volkswagen Electric Vehicles and Fuel-Efficient Sedans and SUVs Are Changing the Game

In the automobile world, there’s a difference between purchase price and cost of ownership. Purchase price is the final dollar amount on your auto loan agreement or bill of sale. Cost of ownership is the umbrella term used to describe any expenses related to the vehicle – present and future. That includes gas, insurance premiums, repairs, loan interest, and so forth.

To get a more accurate view of how much vehicle ownership will cost, savvy car buyers are looking past the MSRP and considering the years ahead. It’s the main reason reliable cars are always in high demand, which is where the Volkswagen lineup of vehicles really shines.

The following breaks down the top three Volkswagen vehicles that provide drivers with the lowest cost of ownership.

2023 Volkswagen Electric Vehicles and Beyond

When considering VW electric vehicles, the German automaker has been in the sweet spot thus far in terms of pricing. The starting MSRP for the 2023 VW ID.4 is just $38,995. Even the highest trim level – the ID.4 AWD Pro S Plus – clocks in at a reasonable $55,245. The affordable price point explains why VW has been successful in taking some of the EV market share away from Tesla and other competing brands.

However, we need to look past the MSRP to properly evaluate cost of ownership. First, the 2023 VW ID.4 and subsequent Volkswagen electric vehicles will be assembled domestically, which means owners should qualify for a significant tax credit. Second, the ID.4 comes with three years of free unlimited DC fast charging sessions at Electrify America stations. This means you won’t have to pay for gas or charging until 2026.

Finally, new ID.4 purchases include scheduled carefree maintenance for the first two years under the Carefree Coverage warranty. If you’re worried about repairs and service beyond the first two years, you can rest easy. Electric vehicles are far easier to maintain than combustion engine vehicles because they use fewer moving parts.

If you’re not yet in the market for an all-electric SUV, 2024 will mark the release of the ID. Buzz, followed by the ID.7 in 2025. These ID models are the first all-electric microbus and sedan in the American lineup of VW electric vehicles.

Volkswagen Vehicles with the Lowest Cost of Ownership

The 2023 Volkswagen Taos and 2023 VW Jetta combine affordability with sleek design, a generous feature package, and long-term reliability. They also lead the pack in terms of lowest cost of ownership. The 2023 VW Jetta has a starting MSRP of just $20,655, which makes it one of the most competitively priced sedans in its class. In the SUV category, the 2023 VW Taos has a starting MSRP of $24,155. Not many new SUVs can be found for under $25k, which is part of the reason the Taos has been such a hot seller thus far.

Another win for both vehicles is fuel economy. The light curb weight and efficient engines of the Jetta and Taos enable them to outperform their main competitors in the sedan and SUV categories. Drivers will get an estimated 29 miles per gallon in the city and 42 on the highway with the 2023 VW Jetta. The 2023 VW Taos provides an estimated 28 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway.

Further, the Jetta and the Taos are both exceptionally easy to maintain, which drives down cost of ownership from a service and repairs perspective. As noted earlier with VW electric vehicles, Volkswagen vehicles with a combustion engine also have maintenance included under the Carefree Coverage warranty. On a related note, Motor1 reports that the average VW owner will spend $676 per year or less on maintenance.

Another thing that works in favor of VW vehicles in terms of cost of ownership is their resale value. According to Car Edge, Volkswagen leads all other auto manufacturers with a 5-year resale value of 85.53%. This means that Volkswagen vehicles are not only among the most competitively priced vehicles, but they also yield the biggest return on the secondary market.

Check Out VW Electric Vehicles and More at Volkswagen Lee’s Summit

Clearly, Volkswagen vehicles have a lot to offer to budget-conscious drivers who don’t want to be saddled with unexpected repairs or poor fuel economy. Low cost of ownership is a big reason why drivers switch over to Volkswagen vehicles in the first place. The VW brand has rightfully earned the reputation for creating sleek, future-forward vehicles meant to suit any budget and family dynamic.

To check out the 2023 Taos, Jetta, or ID.4 in person for a test drive, the best thing to do is visit us at the VW Lee’s Summit dealership. gas being pumped

This Article Will Make You Think Twice About Using Premium Fuel

The price of fuel remains a lingering pain point for many American families. According to AAA, the average price per gallon on regular gasoline in Missouri was $3.21 at the end of May 2023. Granted, this is a considerable improvement from the $4.17 per gallon prices we were paying a year ago; however, drivers are more mindful than ever about the cost of fuel and fuel economy.

Are there any best practices that can be employed to extend gas mileage?

Which vehicles offer the best fuel economy?

Does premium fuel offer any performance benefits over regular unleaded?

Savvy consumers are looking for any advantage that will either reduce their gas expenses or boost their fuel economy. Before we dive into that, let’s first dispel a myth about premium fuel and how it relates to Volkswagen vehicles.

The Difference Between Regular and Premium Gasoline

Adding the word “premium” to anything tends to elevate the product in the minds of consumers. When you think of premium fuel, you probably get the impression it has some performance-enhancing effect on your vehicle that regular fuel does not.

However, that’s not necessarily the case. The main difference between regular fuel and premium fuel is that they have different octane levels. Premium fuel has an octane level of 91; regular has an octane level of 87. So, what exactly do drivers get by paying a little extra for premium?

It’s reported that premium fuel is more balanced and more resistant to engine knocking and spontaneous combustion. Additionally, some varieties of premium fuel are advertised to have anti-corrosive elements that keep the engine clean and mitigate carbon buildup. At face value, this sounds great, but don’t make the switch over to premium fuel just yet.

Can Any Vehicle Have Premium Fuel? What Are the Benefits?

Here’s where things get interesting. The advertised benefits of premium fuel have convinced some drivers to use it instead of regular. One myth is that premium fuel equates to better mileage – not true. Premium fuel won’t degrade the performance of your vehicle, but it won’t enhance it either. Basically, you’d be overpaying for gas for nothing.

Premium gasoline should only be used with vehicles that require it, such as those with turbochargers or high-compression engines. Not using premium fuel for vehicles that require it will eventually lead to a degradation of performance. Drivers will notice a lag when trying to accelerate and a slight reduction in fuel economy. If the incorrect fuel type is used for a prolonged period, it may result in engine knocking or other mechanical issues.

Bottom line: stick with the fuel that the manufacturer of your vehicle recommends. The VW brand has always prioritized cost of ownership, which is why most Volkswagen vehicles are built to run on regular unleaded.

A More In-Depth Look at Gas Mileage for Volkswagen Vehicles

One huge benefit that has always remained consistent with the VW lineup of vehicles is the great fuel economy they provide drivers. Even the Volkswagen SUV models know how to stretch a buck at the pumps.

The following breaks down the fuel economy statistics for each current model year VW vehicle.

  • Volkswagen Jetta gas mileage – up to 31 city/41 highway
  • Volkswagen Golf R gas mileage – up to 23 city/30 highway
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI gas mileage – up to 24 city/34 highway
  • Volkswagen Arteon gas mileage – up to 25 city/33 highway
  • Volkswagen Taos gas mileage – up to 28 city/36 highway
  • Volkswagen Tiguan gas mileage – up to 23 city/30 highway
  • Volkswagen Atlas gas mileage – up to 21 city/25 highway
  • Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport gas mileage – up to 21 city/25 highway
  • Each of these vehicles runs on regular unleaded gasoline; however, there are certain members of the VW automotive family that require premium fuel to run at optimal levels. For example, the 2020 VW Jetta and 2021 VW Tiguan are both offered with turbocharged engines, meaning premium gas is essential for their performance.

Drivers who wish to remove themselves from the gasoline dilemma altogether may want to consider the 2023 VW ID.4. It is the lone electric option in the stable of Volkswagen SUV models, providing drivers up to 275 miles on a single charge in the Pro model. Additionally, the new ID.4 comes with three years of free unlimited DC fast charging sessions at Electrify America stations.

Where to Get More Info About Eco-Friendly Volkswagen Vehicles

Drivers who are curious about what the VW brand has planned for their electric vehicle lineup should check out our preview of the 2025 VW ID.7 and our article about the automaker’s path to sustainability. Volkswagen also has an all-electric travel concept car in the works that aims to replace short-haul flights.

Deciding Between the Brand-New VW Taos and VW Jetta

Graduation is a big step. It means your child will soon embark upon a new journey as they enter the workforce, and what better way to kick off a career than with a new vehicle?

Think of it like a cherry on top for a job well done, and Volkswagen has numerous vehicles that will perfectly pass along the sentiment. Of course, when selecting a vehicle, parents should keep a few key items top of mind.

First, the vehicle should offer a manageable cost of ownership. It should also be slick, stylish, and loaded with the latest in safety features and infotainment. Finally, the vehicle should fall in line with their particular driving style and meet their storage needs.

Keeping that in mind, the new 2023 Volkswagen Jetta for sale and the 2023 VW Taos are among two of the vehicles that are a great fit for college grads. After directly comparing the two, we’ll provide some useful information on where to find these vehicles and how to test drive them at your local VW dealership.

VW Jetta vs. VW Taos – Main Specs and Pricing

When comparing the Jetta to the Taos, first, it’s important to know the Jetta is a sedan while the Taos is a subcompact SUV. If your graduate has an extreme preference for one or the other, that will save you a lot of time right there. The VW Jetta offers 14.1 cubic feet of trunk space while the VW Taos has a max storage capacity of 60.2 cubic feet.

The great thing about both vehicles is they provide low cost of ownership in several ways. The base trim level of the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta for sale has a starting MSRP of $20,665. By comparison, the VW Taos has a starting MSRP of $24,155.

Both vehicles also do well in the fuel economy department. The VW Taos gets an estimated 28 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. However, the VW Jetta performs slightly better, yielding 29 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallon on the highway.

In terms of performance, the VW Taos and Jetta are similar in that regard as well. Both vehicles provide drivers with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The main difference is the Volkswagen Jetta for sale comes with a four-cylinder 1.5L Turbo 6-speed manual transmission while the Taos comes with a 1.5T TSI 8-speed automatic. Of course, the engine on the VW Jetta can be changed to an automatic for slight price increase.

    Features, Warranty Info, and Accolades

No matter which vehicle you decide to get your grad, the VW Jetta and the VW Taos both come with a generous standard offering of features. Included in the feature package is the IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance features and the most current technology and infotainment that VW offers, such as Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro and App-Connect. Safety is priority number one with VW, and the Taos and Jetta both provide a hands-free smartphone experience.

The other commonality between the VW Jetta and the VW Taos is they both come with one of America’s leading vehicle warranties – Carefree Coverage. This suite of coverages ensures your grad’s new VW stays in tip-top condition, and includes scheduled carefree maintenance, roadside assistance, and a new vehicle limited warranty. Information About Your Volkswagen Service Schedule and Priority Items to Be Mindful Of

If you’ve lived in the Kansas City area for even a little bit, then you’re already aware this neck of the woods knows how to bring heat. No, we’re not talking about a rack of piping hot ribs. We’re talking literal heat. That sweltering, humid summer heat that makes the air feel thick.

Considering how hot it can get in this area, it’s all the more important that you stick to your Volkswagen maintenance schedule to ensure your vehicle remains reliable all summer long. The following breaks down some of the high priority Volkswagen service items you should consider before summer ramps up. Once we cover those, we’ll provide some information on where to get professional VW service from a certified mechanic.

First Things First – Your Volkswagen Service Might Be Covered

All late model Volkswagen vehicles include the Carefree Coverage warranty package, so if you bought your VW recently, it’s likely your basic maintenance services coverage is still active. Volkswagen carefree maintenance is active for the first two years or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first) of ownership, and covers many of the basic maintenance services, like filter and oil changes.

If your carefree maintenance has lapsed, the best course of action is to refer to your Volkswagen maintenance schedule or to contact the VW service center to find out which routine items should be addressed. The same way drivers “winterize” their vehicles, there’s a summer equivalent to that.

Typical Summer Problems That Can Impact a Vehicle

Summer weather comes with its own unique set of challenges for a vehicle. Fortunately, there are several warning signs to look for that will tip drivers off that a vehicle problem is on the horizon. The following breaks down the main parts of the car to keep an eye on:

Tires: Every driver is one flat tire away from being completely immobilized. The last thing you want is to be stranded in the Midwestern heat on the side of the road. Do yourself a favor and check the tread of your tires. You can do this yourself using a penny.

Simply insert the coin into the groove of your tire tread head-first. If all or most of President Lincoln’s head is obscured by tire tread, then your tires are in adequate condition. If you can see all or most of Lincoln’s head, that means your tires are low on tread and need to be replaced.

While you’re checking out your tires, it’s also worth confirming they are at the right PSI. Driving on underinflated or overinflated tires can lead to excessive wear and negatively impact how the vehicle handles. You can easily find out the correct PSI for your specific Volkswagen and your driver’s manual or by performing a Google search on your year, make, and model of VW.

Engine: It probably comes as no surprise that overheating engines are a common problem during the summer. To ensure your vehicle performs well during hot conditions, it’s advised that you flush or top off the power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant. The Volkswagen service center can easily do this.

Further, there are warning signs to look for that will indicate your engine is in need of service. Be mindful of:

    • Ticking noises emanating from under the hood.
    • A lag when attempting to accelerate.
    • A burning smell or other odd odors.
    • Smoke or steam coming from under the hood.
    • A hood that’s excessively hot to the touch.
    • A temperature gauge that reads much higher than normal.

If you notice any of these signs, the best course of action is to contact the VW service center to schedule an inspection.

Air Conditioning Unit: Midwestern summer weather is like a decathlon to your AC unit. It’s going to have to work much harder than normal to keep the interior cabin cool, so it’s best to be prepared. At minimum, drivers should top off the Freon levels to ensure they don’t run out of cool air. If you really want to have your bases covered, have the AC unit inspected by a Volkswagen service technician.

Oil and Filter Changes: Oil is one of the most important fluids that pumps through your engine, and it can lead to a disaster if left unaddressed for too long. If it’s been a while since your last oil and filter change, we can’t recommend this service enough. Although best practices vary from vehicle to vehicle, drivers should consider having their oil changed once every 3,000 miles or three months (whichever comes first).

Other Miscellaneous Items: Once you’ve addressed the big stuff, it’s a good idea to work your way down to smaller items that ensure prolonged vehicle integrity. Consider the following VW services:

    • Have the battery checked.
    • Check the brake pads and rotors.
    • Check the wiper blades for wear.
    • Have the suspension checked.
    • Have all belts and hoses inspected for wear.

Scheduling Volkswagen Service at Your Local VW Service Center

Owners of Volkswagen vehicles are highly encouraged to get service exclusively through Volkswagen mechanics. Since VW mechanics are specifically trained on Volkswagen products, they will be way more knowledgeable and skilled in servicing your vehicle than a generic mechanic. This also mitigates the chance they may potentially miss something, which is a problem that often happens with other mechanics who aren’t familiar with German engineered vehicles.

Getting to Know the First Volkswagen Electric Sedan and What to Expect

For the past three years, Volkswagen has had exactly one all-electric option in its North American catalog of vehicles – the VW ID.4. Fortunately, their lone EV has gotten a lot of mileage in terms of success. It was named the 2021 World Car of the Year Award winner and has proven to be a best seller for the VW brand.

Of course, once the all-electric SUV was deemed a certified success, that had many reviewers and drivers asking the same question, “Where’s the sedan version?”

It took a few years, but the Volkswagen Group recently unveiled the 2025 VW ID.7, which will be the first all-electric VW sedan available in North America. Here’s what we know so far.

The Volkswagen Electric Sedan Improves Upon the VW ID.4

Aesthetically, the VW ID.7 is a gorgeous car. It practically redefines the meaning of “sleek” with its aerodynamic design, clean lines, and ultra-refined futuristic style. Car industry folks are already hailing it as a worthy competitor to the Tesla Model 3.

A big part of the acclaim is due to the noticeable improvements over the VW ID.4 in terms of performance and max driving range. The Pro model of the VW ID.4 can get up to 275 miles on a single charge. By comparison, it is estimated the VW ID.7 will get up to 435 miles on a single charge.

Further, the new all-electric VW sedan is estimated to deliver 282 horsepower and a whopping 402 lb-ft of torque. If those estimates are accurate, that would make the Volkswagen ID.7 the speediest most powerful VW electric vehicle in their arsenal.

    Futuristic Features Are Coming

The unveiling of the Volkswagen electric sedan gave the German automaker an opportunity to showcase some new features seen for the very first time. Drivers who value a customizable cabin experience are in for a treat with the new panoramic sunroof with smart glass. It can be set to dim automatically or be controlled with the touch of the button.

The VW ID.7 will also include an augmented reality head-up display which projects images, text, and 3D animations onto the windshield. Navigation directions, speed limits, and warning signals will be gorgeously displayed in the driver’s field of view. They strike the perfect balance of being clear enough to recognize without being overpowering or distracting. It’s a great feature for those who are tired of referring to a secondary screen for their navigation directions.

Other new features being rolled out on the VW ID.7 include a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen display (the largest size yet), an upgraded climate control system, seating with built-in massage function, backlit touch slider controls, and a 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system. Blade Runner fans will get a kick out of all the new futuristic tech the ID.7 delivers.

Volkswagen Electric Sedan Pricing and Release Info

As is the case with VW electric vehicles, the VW ID.7 will come in multiple trim levels. According to reporting from Car and Driver, the VW ID.7 will be available in a base trim, Pro trim, Pro S trim, and Pro S Plus trim. Car and Driver estimates the base trim will have a starting MSRP of approximately $55,000, and that the high-end model will go for approximately $63,000. However, these numbers are subject to change once Volkswagen officially releases the pricing structure and trim level breakdown.

Regarding the release of the VW ID.7, it is estimated that the 2025 model will go on sale sometime in 2024. Similar to the VW ID.4 rollout, buyers will be able to reserve and build the VW ID.7 of their choice through the official Volkswagen website. Of course, dealerships will all get a limited initial shipment of the new Volkswagen electric sedans in various trims and colors.

How to Learn More About the New VW Sedan

The story of the VW ID.7 is still developing, and there’s a long way to go before it arrives at dealerships so drivers can test drive it. Those who are looking to be kept in the loop about the latest news pertaining to the VW ID.7 are encouraged to visit the VW website and request to be added to the mailing list.

Volkswagen also has a dedicated page for the VW ID.7 where visitors can check out exterior and interior galleries and read relevant articles to VW electric sedans and SUVs. Those who are interested in seeing a Volkswagen electric vehicle in person are encouraged to reach out to their local VW dealership.
