2022 Volkswagen Golf

Introducing the All New Golf GTI and Golf R

Car buyers have always had a soft spot for the VW Golf. Although this small hatchback is fairly understated compared to the likes of the towering Tiguan and Atlas, it’s one of those cars you can’t help but fall in love with when you finally drive one. It’s small in size, but big on speed and handling. There’s no corner it can’t take. It also knows a little something about how to be efficient. The Golf’s fuel economy (29 city/39 highway) make it equally equipped for daily commutes to the office and cross-country road trips. When people think of fun and affordable hatchbacks, they naturally think of the VW Golf.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of this little speedster or hearing about it for the first time, there are some great things coming down the pipe from Volkswagen. The next generation of the VW Golf for sale will officially be on the market by Q4 of 2020. Buyers will have two options from the Mk8 line-up of Golf vehicles: the Type R and the GTI.

We’ll break these down so you have a better idea of how they compare to prior iterations of the Golf and each other.

New Golf, New Look, New Attitude

Don’t think of the new Golf as a complete overhaul of this beloved vehicle. The Mk8 line-up definitely has some differences, but the new Type R and GTI still maintain that classic Golf spirit while making some notable improvements. What you’ll notice immediately with the Mk8 is the design is sleeker and sportier. The raked hood and other new design elements give off street racer vibes. However, some elements we’ve kept exactly the same, such as the distinctive C-pillar.

Looking at the specs and build of the Mk8, we’re still using the same wheelbase dimensions at the Mk7 (103.6 inches). Comparing the GTI to the Type R, their physical dimensions are almost identical. The Golf GTI is 168.8 inches long and 57.6 inches in height. The Golf R is a shade bigger, clocking in at 168.9 inches long and 57.7 inches in height. Both cars are the same exact width at 70.4 inches. On the interior of both Mk8 versions, there is 91.9 cubic ft. of space for passengers and 19.9 cubic ft. of cargo space (34.5 cubic ft. with the seats folded down).

Both the GTI and R Type feature a 2.0L turbocharged direct-injection TSI engine that can be paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission. As far as the Golf goes, the Mk8 is the most powerful version VW has ever released.

The interior got some serious revamping. Whereas most auto makers try to add more buttons and levers, we streamlined the look and feel with a “less is more” approach. The instrument panel previously seen on the Mk7 has been upgraded to a 10.25-inch customizable touchscreen. This gives drivers a central control system for all their features, menu options, and infotainment. If you want to adjust the vibe in the car, change the interior lighting to an ambient or vibrant color of your choice (yes, you can do that now).

As our customers have come to expect with prior iterations of the VW Golf, the Mk8 line-up comes standard with a full set of safety features. Our IQ.Drive offers enhanced driver-assistance and safety aids such as lane assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Expect the Mk8 Golf to raise the bar previously set by the Mk7 Golf. Drivers should see increased performance, better handling, and more standard equipment and improved tech features.

2022 Golf GTI

Considering that we made a vast number of improvements from the Mk7 to the Mk8 Golf models, one might expect to see those changes reflected in a hefty price increase. However, Volkswagen isn’t like other car manufacturers. We price our cars competitively to every other car out there on the market – including ourselves.

The current Mk7 VW Golf GTI has a starting MSRP of $28,695. By comparison, the starting MSRP for the Mk8 VW Golf GTI S trim level will be $29,545 upon release. The GTI has two additional trim levels beyond the S level. The GTI SE has a starting MSRP of $34,295 and offers a full suite of standard and luxury features. The highest-level trim is the GTI Autobahn, which starts at $37,995 MSRP.

As previously mentioned, the Golf GTI runs on a 2.0L turbocharged engine. It produces 241 horsepower (up 13 hp from the Mk7) and 273 Lb-ft. of torque. All the GTI’s power is sent directly to the front wheels via the paddle shifters. Managing the torque steer is an electronically-controlled torque sensing limited-slip VAQ differential. The Mk8 VW GTI allows drivers to customize their driving experience with the ability to adjust traction and stability control, a feature no previous iteration has had.

2022 Golf R

Don’t call it a comeback. Although the VW Golf R has been MIA from the Volkswagen line-up for the past three years, it’s returning with a fresh look and some major improvements under the hood. For those that are familiar with the prior iteration of the Golf R, expect a new and improved version with precise handling and brand-new cabin displays.

The VW Golf R is available in one trim level and has a starting MSRP of $43,645. It’s a bit pricier than the GTI; however, we can say with no ego that this is by far and away the most advanced version of the Golf ever manufactured.

The Golf R is fully-loaded in every sense of the word, right down to the heated steering wheel and Nappa leather-upholstered cabin. It’s got every feature imaginable, including the ever-popular Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro with 10.25-inch display. The Golf R can be outfitted with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission. Like the Golf GTI, the Golf R also has a 2.0L turbocharged engine under the hood. However, the Type R gives drivers 315 horsepower and 295 Lb-ft. of torque, solidifying it as the highest-performing Golf of the Mk8 line-up. It comes with an improved 4Motion all-wheel drive that applies the perfect amount of torque to each wheel, which yields superior cornering capabilities.

What’s Next for the New 2022 Golf?

There’s probably a lot of you out there who can’t wait to test drive the new Mk8 Golf. We’re pretty excited to test drive it ourselves. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait just a bit longer before the new Golf hits the showroom floor. It’s due to be released by the end of 2021. Our advice is to keep checking back with our site for news. Once the new Volkswagen Golf is for sale and ready for test driving, we’ll be sure to post about it on the homepage.

How the VW Family of SUVs Can Save You Money at the Pump

We all know the old stigma associated with SUVs. They guzzle so much gas that you’ll go broke trying to keep them fueled. In the case of the infamous Humvee that may have been true, but things in the car manufacturing world have greatly improved over the past three decades. SUVs are finally to the point where they can provide drivers with the best of both worlds – fuel-economy with tons of interior space and storage.

If you’ve been searching terms like “used cars for sale” or “new cars for sale” in an attempt to find that perfect vehicle, then look no further than your local Volkswagen dealer. We carry some of the most high-performing and feature-packed SUVs in the entire automotive industry. And you can bet your bottom dollar we made sure they’re fuel-efficient. Here’s a breakdown of some of our top SUVs when it comes to fuel economy. You can find any of these at your local Volkswagen dealer.

2021 VW Tiguan – Fuel economy: 23 city/29 highway

The Volkswagen Tiguan is easily one of the most popular vehicles that VW has ever released. Reviewers and customers alike have nothing but great things to say about our rendition of the full-size SUV. It’s beautifully designed with tons of storage and plenty of power under the hood. It’s also loaded with all the latest and greatest in safety features, which is why it was rated as a 2021 IIHS Top Safety Pick when equipped with Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) with dynamic cornering headlights. As far as fuel economy is concerned, 23 city/29 highway is fantastic for an SUV of this size.

2022 VW Taos – Fuel economy: 28 city/36 highway

New to the game is the 2022 VW Taos, which is our take on the subcompact style of SUVs. One of the big things that we love about the Taos is the price. When someone comes into our dealership and asks for the most affordable SUV that we have, we point right at the Taos. The starting MSRP for the base trim level is $22,995. Another check in the win column for the Taos is its fuel economy, which clocks in at an efficient 28 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway. Although you sacrifice a bit on size and storage when comparing it to the Tiguan, the Taos wins on gas and pricing.

It also offers a luxurious interior with lots of room for passengers and cargo space, just as you’d expect from any SUV. Although the ID.4 is new to the SUV game, it’s already making a name for itself. The ID.4 was declared World Car of the Year at the 2021 World Car Awards. How to Choose the VW SUV That’s Right for You

Back to school season means that parents will be making more daily trips, hauling around more gear, and doing more waiting in the school’s pick-up line. Collectively, you and your kids will be spending a lot more time in the car. If you’ve been searching terms like “used cars for sale” or “new cars for sale” trying to find that perfect back to school vehicle, Volkswagen has more than a few choices that both parents and kids love.

VW Jetta – The Best Car for Fuel Economy

Parents get pretty excited when they see the starting MSRP for the 2021 VW Jetta is $18,995. It’s one of the most competitively priced cars out there on the market. However, the category where the Jetta wins big is on fuel economy. Parents know that when school starts back up, it means their time on the road will kick up significantly. Great gas mileage is priority number one for parents who are on a budget, and the Jetta delivers that in spades with 30 mpg in the city and a whopping 41 mpg on the highway. When you factor in all the safety and convenience features, not to mention the modern and roomy interior, the VW Jetta is a lot of car for such a small price tag.

VW Atlas – The Best Car for Big Families

A sedan is going to work for families with one or two kids, but a large family dynamic requires a larger vehicle. This officially puts you in SUV territory. Not only are you going to need more room for passengers, you’ll also need the additional cargo space for book bags, school projects, and sports equipment. So, what’s the solution here? You need to go big, and nothing is bigger than the Volkswagen Atlas. It is a three-row SUV that comfortably seats up to seven passengers. It’s roomy on the inside like a minivan, but is built and drives like a powerful SUV. There’s a lot of power under the hood. The 8-speed automatic 2.0L Turbo engine (also available as a 3.6L V6) offers drivers 235 horsepower with 258 Lb-ft. of torque. Best of all, the Atlas is a certified favorite among parents. Cars.com just named it the Family Car of the Year for the second year in a row and “Parents Magazine” named it as one of their Best Family Cars for the fourth year in a row.

VW Taos – The Happy Medium

Some sedan owners are resistant to the idea of switching over to an SUV. They either like the way their sedan handles or don’t want to lose fuel economy by making the switch. However, bigger families require more room and more storage. If you’re looking for a vehicle that provides more room but isn’t a full-scale SUV, then look no further than the all-new VW Taos. It comfortably seats five people and offers 65.9 cubic ft. of cargo volume, which should be more than enough to handle everyone’s school supplies. And don’t worry about gas mileage. The VW Taos does well in this category with 28 mpg city and 36 mpg on the highway. The Taos is also the most affordable SUV in our line-up with a starting MSRP of $22,995 – perfect for the parent who’s on a budget. This compact SUV is slick, stylish, and will impress fellow parents in the school pick-up line.

Loaded with Safety and Convenience Features

No matter which new VW you decide to go with, you can be sure it will come with a full range of features designed to keep your family safe as well as entertained. Parents are always traveling with precious cargo, and the Driver Assistance features from VW gives drivers a heads up when there are potential hazards in the area. They include

  • Dynamic Road Sign Display
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Rear Traffic Alert
  • Park Distance Control with Maneuver Braking
  • Light Assist

From a safety features perspective, VW has gone all out to ensure that parents can venture out onto the road with confidence. They include

  • Rear View Camera System
  • Safety Cage

Additionally, all of our new vehicles feature Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, satellite radio capability, USB ports, top-of-the-line audio, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. We give drivers the best technology imaginable with plenty of ways to keep passengers entertained and comfortable.

Breaking Down the Different Trim Levels on the 2022 Volkswagen Taos

If you’ve ever browsed new or used cars for sale, you’ve probably heard the term “trim package” used once or twice during the shopping process. For those not familiar with that term, a trim package refers to the equipment and features that come with the car. To cite an example of that, the ever-popular Volkswagen Tiguan comes in five distinct trim levels. The VW Atlas and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport have multiple trim levels as well. Trim levels are a way for consumers to get the features and benefits they want out of a car without paying for things they don’t foresee needing. As you’d expect, the higher the trim level, the higher the price.

Regarding the all-new 2022 Volkswagen Taos, the same formula with trims applies as the other vehicles previously mentioned. The Taos comes in three distinct trim levels, starting with the base model S, then elevating to the SE, and then topping out with the ultra-luxurious SEL trim level that includes everything.

So that you can get familiar with trim levels and the difference between them, we’re going to break down all three for the 2022 VW Taos starting with the S and then working our way up to the SEL. We’ll make sure to note when a feature is included that wasn’t included on a previous version so it’s nice and easy to track.

A Side-by-Side Comparison of These Two Highly Popular VW Vehicles

People love the Volkswagen Golf GTI – and really – why wouldn’t they? It’s fun. It’s sporty. It can bob and weave through traffic like a lightweight boxer. It’s also got enough power under the hood to get from zero to sixty in under six seconds. The VW Golf GTI is one of those vehicles that has a lot of surprise factor because it appears modest and unassuming. Even the name Golf has a certain humble quality about it. But when people put the pedal to the metal, the Golf shows its true colors…a little hatchback speed demon that puts other cars on notice.

People love the Golf GTI. However, it’s not the only car in the VW line-up that’s winning over the hearts and minds of those looking for the next big thing on four wheels. For those Golf GTI fans out there that want the full-on luxury sedan driving experience, we introduce to you the Volkswagen Arteon. Let’s dive right into a side-by-side comparison.

Comparing the Main Specs of the 2021 VW Arteon to the 2021 VW Golf GTI

For those that feel the VW Golf GTI is a bit of a tight fit, the VW Arteon is here to give drivers a little extra room to spread out. Compared to the Golf GTI which sits at 168″ L x 71″ W x 58″ H, the Arteon is both longer and wider with the dimensions of 191″ L x 74″ W x 57″ H. Passengers will feel this on the interior with extra legroom and a little more space when seating three people in the backseat. Cargo space also favors the Volkswagen Arteon at 55 cubic ft. (with the seats folded down) vs. the VW GTI Golf with 52.7 cubic ft. (with the seats folded down).

Under the hood, both the base level trims of the VW Golf GTI and Arteon feature the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and have 258 lb-ft of torque, however, the Arteon has a bit more zip to it with 268 horsepower compared to the Golf GTI sitting at 228 horsepower. For fans of how the Golf GTI handles, people should love the secure and solid feel of the Arteon when it takes curves at high speeds.

As far as fuel economy goes, the Golf and Arteon are neck-and-neck in terms of highway at 32 mpg, however, the Golf favors city drivers at 24 mpg compared to the Arteon’s 22 mpg.

VW Arteon vs. VW GTI Golf’s Technology

When it comes to features, both the VW Arteon and VW GTI Golf have a lot to offer. Both vehicles have App-Connect (Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) for seamlessly pairing your smartphone, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), and Blind Spot Monitor. However, there are some features the Arteon has that the Golf GTI doesn’t. For instance, the Arteon features one extra USB-C port (total of two), a larger color display at 8” (compared to the GTI’s 6.5” screen), and Volkswagen’s digital cockpit. These among other features put the Arteon slightly ahead in this head-to-head race. So don’t be shocked when you see the Arteon’s sticker price ($36,995 MSRP) is a bit heftier compared to the Golf GTI’s ($28,695 MSRP). You’re getting a bit more with this luxury sedan in both convenience and safety features, which makes it well worth the investment.

Test Drive the VW Arteon or VW GTI Golf Today!

The Perks of Owning a VW for Cross-Country Trips

When it comes to selecting a vehicle that you’re planning on racking up mileage with, you need it to cover a few bases. It should have great fuel economy, plenty of features to keep you and your family entertained, and it should be one of the safest cars out there on the road. Fortunately, Volkswagen does all that and more with its most recent line-up of high-quality vehicles that are specifically designed to make cross-country travel a breeze. In this post, we’re breaking down the top five Volkswagen features that will help you get the most out of your road trip during your next big family adventure.

Storage, Seating, and Overall Capacity

If you plan on hitting the road with friends or family, then you’re going to need plenty of seating and lots of storage. Camping gear, luggage, backpacks, and coolers all take up tons of space, so it’s in your best interest to go with a vehicle that offers ample interior space for your guests and all your baggage. If you want to maximize your interior, then you can’t go wrong with the VW Atlas, Volkswagen Tiguan, or the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. These are all high storage capacity vehicles from the SUVW family that are built for those big-time travel plans. The VW Atlas Cross Sport comfortably seats five people, but if you need to scale things up a notch, the VW Atlas and the VW Tiguan can seat up to seven people – perfect for those big family road trips. You can also fold the seats down in these vehicles for additional storage. The VW Atlas offers drivers up to 96.8 cubic ft. of storage if you’re not using the back row for passengers.

Fuel Economy

When embarking on a long-distance road trip, you want to make sure that you have fuel economy working in your favor so your travel budget isn’t devoured at the pump. That’s why the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta is the clear winner for those looking to maximize their fuel dollars. The VW Jetta gets an estimated 30 mpg in the city and a whopping 41 mpg out on the highway. It’s not only one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles Volkswagen has ever made, but one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the entire industry. This VW is made to go the distance.

Entertainment Features

Remember in the pre-Internet days when a road trip meant hours of listening to the same CDs over and over or trying to get reception on spotty radio channels? Boy, times have changed. No longer do you have to suffer with tired playlists or long stretches of silence. Volkswagen has stacked the deck when it comes to entertainment features, providing drivers with App-Connect and Bluetooth technology so that you can seamlessly pair your Apple or Android device. This allows you to stream your favorite playlists and use selected apps right on your VW vehicle’s composition color touchscreen. Many of the newer models of VW also feature at least one USB-C port so you can keep your phone charged. Higher level trims feature two or more ports.

Advanced Safety Features

If you’re out there cruising along the road at high speeds, safety is the name of the game. And nobody plays the game better than Volkswagen. That’s why we’ve included a full suite of safety features that aim to keep you and your precious cargo safe and alert of any potential hazards in your vicinity. Some of our most popular safety features include

  • Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution, and Hydraulic Brake Assist
  • Crash-optimized front end
  • Driver and front passenger, front and side thorax airbag supplemental restraint system
  • Electronic Stability Control, Anti-Slip Regulation, Electronic Differential Lock, and Engine Brake Assist
  • Front safety belts, height-adjustable, with pretensioners and load limiters
  • Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS)

The Game-Changing All-Electric Vehicle of the Future

With gas prices hovering around the $3/gal benchmark and people returning to the road for their daily commute, you may be spending a tad bit more at the pump than you’re accustomed to. Gas prices are sort of the silent killer when it comes to budgeting money towards a vehicle, which is why many folks are giving electric cars some serious consideration. Unlike five years ago, the options for what you can get with an all-electric car has vastly expanded. You can also now get them without paying an arm and a leg. If you’ve been searching for “used cars near me” or “used cars for sale,” then you’re already aware of the vast selection that’s out there – both with electric vehicles and gas-powered. If you’ve been driving a gas-guzzler all your life, now may be the perfect time to consider making the switch to something more eco-friendly. We’re talking, of course, about the all-new electric-powered 2021 Volkswagen ID.4.

If you are already familiar with the Volkswagen Tiguan or other models of Volkswagen SUVs, the ID.4 is similar in that you’re going to get the classic SUV driving experience, but fully powered by a rechargeable battery. The ID.4 is already creating a healthy amount of buzz amongst vehicle testers and trade publications alike. In fact, it’s already been declared the winner of the 2021 World Car of the Year award. Read on to find out why the ID.4 is earning such rave reviews.

Going All-Electric (and Long Distance) with the New VW ID.4

There are a few major hurdles when it comes to convincing folks that all-electric cars are a viable option for them. First, there’s the price tag. There’s a big misconception that all electric cars cost as much as a Tesla, but the VW ID.4’s Pro model retails for around $42,000, which makes it one of the most affordable new vehicles in its class.

The other challenge for consumers is that they’re worried about the mileage range when it comes to electric vehicles. Nobody wants to feel like they’re chained to a charging station and needing to go out of their way just to juice up the battery. If you’re worried about that happening with the ID.4 – don’t. Volkswagen has painstakingly gone to great lengths to ensure that the ID.4 has one of the longest charges in the all-electric class of vehicles. It’s already been tested and verified to be able to travel 260 miles on a single charge. To put that in perspective, you should be able to drive from Lee’s Summit all the way to St. Louis in a single trip. The ID.4 is made for cross-country driving, and has already completed a 6,700-mile road trip through an independent test. This is the big reason why a lot of people are calling the ID.4 one of the most reliable vehicles – electric or otherwise – ever manufactured.

Of course, there are going to be those times when you need to charge the car. Granted, charging takes a bit longer than pumping gas, but the VW ID.4 makes the process pretty easy. With Level 2 Home Charging, you will get 23 – 34 miles off a one-hour charge with the ID.4 Pro model. When charging with Level 3 DC Fast Charging, you’ll get 62 miles on the ID.4 Pro after just ten minutes. Most people charge their cars while they shop or run errands and come back to a nearly-full battery. Making sure that both the driving range and charging times were convenient for drivers was a top priority for VW when designing the ID.4.

How the Volkswagen ID.4 Compares to Competing SUVs

When it comes to discussing the ID.4, naturally, people are going to ask, “How does it stack up against other best-in-class SUVs?” When we’re talking about competitors, we think of the 2021 Subaru Forester, the 2021 Honda CR-V, the 2021 Toyota RAV4, and yes, even the 2021 VW Tiguan. All of these are technically SUVs, however, the ID.4 is the only all-electric SUV out of the bunch. This makes the comparison a bit apples and oranges when it comes to how it performs from a fuel-economy standpoint because you’ll no longer be hitting the pump.

Moving on to the key performance metrics of the vehicle, the VW ID.4 has a lot to offer when comparing it to those other SUVs. For instance, the Subaru Forester offers 182 horsepower under the hood while the ID.4 ups the ante with 201 horsepower. The Honda CRV offers 179 lb-ft of torque while the ID.4 leaves it in the dust with 228 lb-ft of torque. So if you’re worried about owning an all-electric vehicle that can’t compete with its gas-guzzling counterparts – fear not – VW has built a truly powerful machine worthy of any SUV driver.

The VW ID.4 is also fully capable of taking on its all-electric counterparts as well. In addition to having one of the best driving ranges for an electric vehicle, the ID.4 also has one of the most competitive price points in the industry, starting at just $43,675. To give a little side-by-side comparison, the entry level Ford Mustang Mach-E with AWD costs $45,595 and the Tesla Model Y Long Range clocks in even higher at $52,490. If you go with the higher trim level version – the ID.4 AWD Pro S – it’s only $48,175 and offers the Gradient Package, including 20-inch alloy wheels, a black roof with silver trim, and slightly revised bumpers. All ID.4 models carry a $1,195 destination charge but are eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit.

And no SUV would be complete without a wide array of features, and the VW ID.4 offers those in spades. It includes wireless smartphone integration for compatible devices through App-Connect and wireless cell phone charging. It also offers Emergency Assist, Travel Assist, and Remote Access Services at no additional charge. The VW ID.4 also has some of the largest screen real estate around clocking in at 10 inches; the RAV4 and Honda CR-V only have 7-inch screens.

Finally, the warranty is one of the best out there when it comes to new SUVs. The VW ID.4 offers a 4-year/50,000-mile (whichever comes first) warranty compared to the Subaru, Honda, and Toyota SUVs we mentioned that only offer a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty (whichever comes first).

Check Out the Award-Winning VW ID.4 In Person

As the winner of the 2021 World Car of the Year award, the Volkswagen ID.4 is already shaping up to be a game changer in the all-electric vehicle market and beyond. It’s modern aesthetic, jam-packed feature package, and top-of-the-line performance make the ID.4 the reason to finally make the switch from gas to electric.

The only way to know if the ID.4 is the vehicle for you is by taking it for a spin. The best way to test drive the all-new VW ID.4 is to search “Volkswagen dealer” or “VW dealership near me” to bring up your closest VW location. Or, you can simply head to VW Lee’s Summit, conveniently located at 2225 NE Independence Ave. The Volkswagen ID.4 is an immensely popular vehicle, so feel free to use the contact us form to send us a message that you’d like to book an appointment for your upcoming test drive.

We also have plenty of other new cars for sale if you’re not quite ready to go electric. VW Lee’s Summit has the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan for sale, which is one of our best-selling SUVs that we carry.

Volkswagen Taos 2022

What to Expect from Volkswagen’s All-New Subcompact SUV

If you’ve been looking for the perfect VW SUV for sale, then prepare to be blown away by the all-new 2022 Volkswagen Taos, which is primed to be a game-changer in the subcompact sport utility vehicle market. If you’ve been searching for new cars for sale in the Lee’s Summit area, then chances are you’ve probably already seen the VW Taos pop up in your results at your local Volkswagen dealer. It’s already making a name for itself as the slightly smaller version of the 2021 Tiguan, which is currently one of our hottest-selling Volkswagen SUVs on the market. The Taos is the perfect vehicle for those that want all the cabin space and features of a luxury SUV, but on a slightly reduced scale. Think of it as the Tiguan’s slightly smaller cousin.

2022 Volkswagen Taos Specs and Size Info

If you’ve checked out one of our Volkswagen Tiguan models for sale, then you already know you get a lot of vehicle, cabin space, and power under the hood. That’s the big reason why customers are so pleased with it. When it comes to the 2022 VW Taos, you can expect a lot of those same highlights, but just a little bit smaller since it’s a subcompact SUV. For instance, the 2021 Tiguan offers a nice and roomy 73.5 cu. ft. of cargo space while the 2022 VW Taos gives drivers 66.3 cu. ft. of cargo space, which is still plenty of room to handle any grocery run, camping trip, or cross-country adventure with the family. Comparing the overall vehicle dimensions, the 2021 Tiguan is 185.1 inches in length, 72.4 inches in width, and 66.3 inches in height. The 2022 Taos is slightly smaller at 175.8 inches in length, 72.5 inches in width, and 64.4 inches in height. Parallel parking the Taos should be a bit easier.

Looking under the hood, the VW Taos isn’t quite as powerful as the Tiguan. However, it’s so close that most drivers might not even notice. The 2021 VW Tiguan has a 2.0L Turbo I-4 engine with 184 hp while the 2022 VW Taos offers 1.5L Turbo I-4 engine with 158 hp. Granted, the Tiguan has the edge over the Taos, but that’s still more than enough power under the hood to bring you up to merging speed out on the highway.

Although the Tiguan has the Taos marginally beat on cargo space and power under the hood, it can’t win every category. That’s right, we’re talking about fuel economy. Whereas the 2021 VW Tiguan offers 23 city/29 highway mpg, the all new VW Taos has it beat with 28 city/36 highway mpg, which makes it perfect for your daily commute and cross-country adventures.

Additionally, you have the ability to select between all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive during your purchase of the VW Taos; AWD costs approximately $1,500 extra if you want to upgrade from FWD.

2022 VW Taos Features

When it comes to the all-new 2022 VW Taos, we’ve packed it with more features than any other subcompact SUV on the market. That’s the beauty of driving a Volkswagen…you get a true luxury vehicle with a non-luxury price tag. Some of our favorite features include:

  • Tiguan, Passat and Arteon rate at lower costs of maintenance than key competitor brands in their segments

Volkswagen of America, Inc. recently announced the results from a maintenance cost study that established best rankings for lowest cost of maintenance for several of the brand’s core models. The analysis, performed by automotive data firm Vincentric, found Atlas family and Jetta models topping their segments for lowest cost of maintenance over the first five years of ownership, while Tiguan, Passat and Arteon all performed better than models from key competitive brands with respect to maintenance costs over the first five years of ownership.

Putting a VW in your driveway is not just a fun decision to make; it’s a smart and sensible one as well.”

Vincentric’s maintenance cost analysis found that select 2021 Volkswagen models have a lower cost of maintenance than key competitors in their categories. Specific VW highlights of the study include:

  • 2021 Passat and Arteon models have lower cost of maintenance than competitive models by Toyota, Honda and Hyundai in the midsize sedan segment.

The high rankings can be largely attributed to factors such as the brand’s focus on improving scheduled maintenance requirements, as well as the Carefree Maintenance program that is now standard on 2021 Volkswagen vehicles.
