A Preview of Our Speediest Most Sophisticated Vehicle Yet
With the exception of the Volkswagen Beetle, there is perhaps no vehicle more synonymous with iconic German vehicles than the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Originally rolling out in 1976, the very first Golf GTI was able to outrun Porsches with its 110-mph top speed. Since then, the VW Golf GTI has continued to wow drivers with every new iteration. When people see a new Volkswagen Golf for sale, they immediately want to know if it’s a GTI.
We’re pleased to announce that the next wave of VW GTI has arrived. Coming to a Volkswagen dealership near you by the end of the year, the all-new 2022 VW GTI.
A Tip to Tail Redesigned GTI
When the new Volkswagen GTI debuted at the Chicago Auto Show recently, many attendees and reviewers first took notice of the new look and feel of this new VW. The Mk8 edition has undergone a complete series of upgrades, which gives this new Golf GTI a more modern, and – dare we say – meaner appearance.
Every exterior panel of the car has been upgraded from the Mk7 iteration, however, the overall body and dimensions are still very much the GTI the drivers have come to know and love over the years. The devil resides in the details. Most notably, the thin red signature GTI line trimming the hood, which is a clever nod to the Mk1 edition. The redesigned headlamps and running lights give the GTI a new face for the modern era. When onlookers see those distinct X-shaped hexagonal lights in the GTI’s honeycomb grille, they’ll know they’re seeing the breed of hot hatchbacks.
The designers and engineers spared no expense tricking out the inside of the new GTI, either. The Scalepaper-patterned seats are pure fashion while the Digital Cockpit Pro goes for futuristic function. For those that got used to all those knobs and buttons in previous versions of the GTI, they’ve been replaced by a touchscreen console. Drivers will be able to control virtually every aspect of the car with illuminated ease. It’s perfect for night drivers. And speaking of driving at night, the VW GTI has 30 different configurable colors that can be used to set the vibe in the car. It’s yet another example of how VW is catering to drivers who want to completely customize their on-the-road experience.
Additionally, the new Golf GTI will feature three new aluminum-alloy wheel designs. There are two 18-inch wheel choices (five-spoke polished metal and multi-spoke glossy black) and a 19-inch multi-spoke black design with diamond-turn surfaces.
The Most Powerful GTI Yet
Of course, no GTI is going to be worth its salt unless it can leave its predecessors in the dust, and the Mk8 doesn’t disappoint in that regard. The brand-new Volkswagen GTI runs on a 2.0L turbocharged direct-injection TSI engine that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission. Performance-wise, drivers will get 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft. of torque, which officially makes this the most powerful out of all the GTIs that have come before it. Drivers can also expect responsive handling and the ability to hug even the tightest of corners with ease. The 2022 VW Golf GTI is tailor made to cut through traffic with surgical precision.
It’ll Be Here Before the Holidays
The official word from Volkswagen is that the new GTI will be available for sale and test driving in Q4 of 2022. So, you’re going to have to wait, but the good news is that you won’t have to wait very long. Expect the GTI to arrive before Santa makes his rounds at Christmas. As soon as we have them in stock, we’ll be sure to post the news on the main page of our dealership’s site.
