Is It the Best Volkswagen Subcompact SUV Ever?
The subcompact class is, for many people, the perfect combination of space, versatility, and affordability. It’s a busy market, but the 2023 Volkswagen Taos goes above and beyond the competition with its fantastic fuel economy and attractive base price, making it a fantastic new car purchase.
You can choose front- or all-wheel drive on your 2023 Taos, with both models offering outstanding fuel mileage from the advanced 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. There’s plenty of cargo space, too, and a well-appointed interior. The VW Taos won the Parents Best Family Car and Best City SUV awards in 2022. And, this year, even more safety technology is included as standard on all trims.
Overall, we consider the 2023 Volkswagen Taos one of the best subcompact SUVs ever to hit the market and one of the best new cars for sale in Kansas City.
What’s New on the 2023 VW Taos?
The 2023 Taos has even more equipment than its predecessor, with many safety features added as standard across the board.
All 2023 VW Taos models now have a forward collision warning, rear traffic alert, blind spot monitor, pedestrian monitor, and automatic emergency braking.
The base S tier, which was already a bargain, now has 18-inch wheels if you choose the AWD model. The top-of-the-line SEL gets a standard panoramic sunroof, making the interior of the vehicle an even more pleasant place to be.
Power and Handling on This New VW for Sale
The 1.5-liter engine outputs 150 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. If you choose the front-wheel drive Taos, you’ll get an eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas the all-wheel drive version comes with a fantastic seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive Taos also has a more advanced multilink rear suspension.
Fuel Economy: Pay Less at the Pump
The front-wheel drive 2013 Volkswagen Taos gets an average of 23 miles to the gallon in the city and 36 miles to the gallon on the highway. Opt for the all-wheel drive Taos, and you’ll get 25 miles to the gallon in the city and 32 miles to the gallon on the highway.
Reviewers have reported getting even higher figures, sometimes averaging over 40 miles to the gallon, a highly impressive feat.
Inside the 2023 Volkswagen Taos
Sit in the Volkswagen Taos for the first time, and you’ll immediately recognize the Volkswagen styling, which is typically more functional than extravagant.
The Taos offers two digital displays and the option of leather upholstery. You’re also given many more options when you purchase your VW Taos; you can opt for an eight-way power driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, customizable ambient lighting, and dual-zone climate control.
Despite being a much smaller vehicle than its big brother, the Tiguan, the Taos still offers almost as much rear legroom at 37.9 inches. There are 28 cubic feet of space for cargo behind the rear seats, and you’ll get 66 cubic feet when you fold them flat.
A Wealth of Technology
The Taos digital cockpit is highly customizable through the VW Digital Cockpit Pro app. You can select exactly what you see on the display, from travel times and route guidance to speed and driver assistance systems.
Volkswagen’s Car-Net functionality adds features like remote start, Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless charging. There’s SiriusXM for premium audio content, and App-Connect allows you to plug in your phone and use your apps on the dashboard touchscreen.
With the right trim, you don’t even need to plug your phone in, as you can connect to it wirelessly via Wi-Fi. App-Connect supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so no matter the type of mobile device you prefer you use, you can get the most out of your new Taos.
2023 Volkswagen Taos Warranty
Volkswagen offers an excellent vehicle warranty, with limited and powertrain warranties covering you for the first 50,000 miles or four years, whatever comes first. You also get complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first 20,000 miles or two years, whatever comes first.
It’s worth noting, too, that the Taos is ranked as the lowest-cost vehicle to maintain in the compact ICE SUV segment. And if you want to take care of it the way Volkswagen recommends, bring it to a Volkswagen service center so that it will serve you well for many years.
